Synology is one of the leading company that manufactures NAS devices thus provides versatile boxes that finds favour with enthusiasts as well as small- to medium-sized businesses. It had launched the new DS218+ which is the advance version of previously launched DS218j and then the DS716+II on the entry-level DS215j. Synology DiskStation DS218+ sits in between these two earlier models. The price of the new DS218+ Rs. 32,799 in the market.
The DS218+ powered by an Intel Celeron J3355 dual-core processor which is capable of speeds up to 2.5 GHz. It is provided with 2GB of DDR3L RAM that can be further expanded by 4GB by using the second memory slot that is available. It isa two bay NAS in which we can fix 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch SATA drives for each bay. It supports drives have storage capacity upto 14TB each which can be further expanded to 28TB. The device is provided with three USB 3.0 ports, 1 Gigabit Ethernet port, 1 eSATA port, and a copy button that can be used to copy data from an external drive quickly.
The size of the new DS218+ is 165mm x 108mm x 232.2 mm and weighs 1.3kg. The look is almost same as that of DS716+II and DS718+. The speed of the device is 113Mbps during the read operation and 112MBps during the write operation. The temperature range of the operation is from 5°C to 40°C. The feature of the device includes AES-NI hardware encryption, a virtual machine manager, and a MailPlus Server license that allows us to run a hosted email solution. Other features includes supporting the users of Synology’s Office, Drive, and Chat collaboration apps. We can install as many apps we can through the Package Centre which is a sort of App Store for our Synology NAS.
